The Journal Committee of Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS) has been formally constituted to promote research and academic dissemination. Below are the key updates:

  • Formation of Committees
    o The Journal Committee has been established.
    o An Editorial Board has been formed.
  • Journal Initiation
    o The inaugural edition of the Journal of Odisha University of Health Sciences has been Published on foundation day of OUHS celebrated on 30th March, 2025  named JOUHS, Volume 1, Issue 1.   

O Articles for the Volume 2, Issue 2 has already been invited for this year 2025.

  • Reviewers Nominated
    o Reviewers across various academic streams have been nominated for the Journal to ensure comprehensive evaluation.
  • Official Journal Email
    o A dedicated email for the Journal has been created to facilitate submissions and communication.
  1. OUHS Travelling Fellowship Program

To foster academic excellence and professional development, the OUHS Travelling Fellowship Program has been launched. Key points are outlined below:

  • Launch and Invitation
    o The Fellowship Program for outstanding students and faculty members of affiliated medical and dental colleges has been officially launched.
    o Applications are invited from postgraduate (PG) students and faculties to enhance their academic and professional growth through exposure to new environments and research opportunities.
  • Program Details
    o Duration: The fellowship lasts for 10 days for faculty members and 7 days for PG students.
    o Funding: All expenses related to travel, accommodation, and training will be fully covered by OUHS, adhering to its norms.
  • Selection Process
    o The applications will be reviewed by the Fellowship Committee of OUHS, chaired by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor.
  • Notification
    o Official notifications regarding the program have been issued.
  1. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)

OUHS has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with several prestigious institutions for academic collaboration, clinical training, and skill development. These include:

  • Purpose
    o These MoUs aim to establish a strategic partnership, focusing on collaborative research, academic exchange, and the enhancement of educational excellence in medical health and allied sciences.
  1. Research Talk and Online CME Series

A Research Talk and Online CME Series has been initiated as part of OUHS’s flagship academic program. A dedicated committee has been formed for this series named Research Talk and Online series Committee.

  • Program Structure
    The program was initially conducted on the 3rd Friday of each month up to Month of April and  then the date has been revised to 3rd Wednesday of each month. It follows the format of:
    1. Lead Talk (by an expert in the field)
    2. Faculty Presentations
    3. Student Presentations
  • First Research Talk
    o The 1st Research Talk and Online CME Series was conducted on 17th January 2025.
    o The Lead Talk was delivered by Prof.(Dr.) Gitanjali Batmanbame on “The Art of thesis writing Techniques, Tips & Triumphs”, and an invited talk was given by Prof(Dr.) Rasmi Ranjan Das from AIIMS, Bhubaneswar on “How to make effective Journal club presentations”.
  • Second Research Talk

o The 2nd Research Talk and Online CME Series took place on 22nd February 2025.
o The Lead Talk was presented by Prof.(Dr.) Anantha Krishnan from JIPMER Puducherry on “Competency based Medical Education”, while the invited talk was delivered by Post PG Resident Karthikeyan Anbagalan from SCB DCH, Cuttack on “Significance of Systematic Review of Evidence-based Clinical Practice”.

  • Third Research Talk

o The 3rd Research talk and Online CME Series took place on 21st March, 2025.

o The lead Talk was presented by Padmashree Prof(Dr.) Digambar Behera from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh on “Biomedical Research- an Indian perspective” while the Faculty Talk was delivered by Dr. Neha Padhi, Asst. Professor, Department of Anaesthesiology, BB MCH, Bolangir on “Formulating a Research Question”.

  • Fourth Research Talk

o The 4th  Research talk and Online CME Series took place on 18th April, 2025.

o The lead Talk was presented by Prof(Dr.) Mahesh Chandra Mishra, Ex- Director of AIIMS, New-Delhi on “Injury : An epidemic of current millenium—Unmet need of 1.4 billion people” while the Faculty Talk was delivered by Prof(Dr.) Suchismita Panda, HoD, Department of Biochemistry, DD MCH, Keonjhar on “Beyond HOMA IR: Can TyG index be used as a marker of Insulin Resistance”.

  • Fifth Research Talk

o The 5th  Research talk and Online CME Series took place on 21st May, 2025.

o The lead Talk was presented by Prof(Dr.) Vikram Kate, Dean(Academic), Professor of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery, JIPMER, Puducherry on “Tips for Writing a Scientific Research Paper Effectively” while the Faculty Talk was delivered by Dr. Tapas Pani, Asst. Professor, Department of Community Medicine, FM MCH, Keonjhar on “Framing a Good Title for a Research Paper”.

  1. Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme by Faculty Development Committee
    The Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme by the Faculty/Student Development Committee for Medical/Dental of OUHS is designed to enhance faculty teaching skills across multiple disciplines, including medical, dental, allied sciences, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, and Pharmacy. This initiative equips faculty members to later train postgraduate (PG) residents, ensuring a dynamic and effective learning environment.
  • The first ToT Programme was held on 2nd and 3rd December 2024 at Hotel Crystal Crown. The topic was Research Methodology for medical and dental faculty members.
  • A total of 30 participants were nominated across affiliated medical and dental colleges to participate.
  • The programme focuses on revising core subjects, promoting critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific inquiry in various healthcare fields.
  • Faculty members enhance their mentorship skills, preparing them to guide PG residents in both academic and professional development.
  • Another FDP programme is going to be held at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar on May 11th and 12th for Nursing faculties on Teaching Methodology under the supervision of Nursing Faculty Development Committee focusing specifically on the development of Nursing Stream.
  1. Scientific Paper Writing Programme
    OUHS has organized an one-day Scientific Paper Writing Programme on 22nd February 2025 at Hotel Crystal Crown. The session, titled “How to Write a Scientific Paper”, aims to provide participants with practical insights into writing clear, impactful scientific papers. The programme will cover essential aspects of scientific writing, including structuring papers, presenting research findings, and the nuances of publication ethics. This initiative is part of OUHS’s continued efforts to equip students and faculty with the tools needed for effective academic dissemination.
  2. Focused Faculty Development Programme (FFDP)

The Focused Faculty Development Programme (FFDP) is another flagship initiative by OUHS, designed specifically to enhance faculty standards through targeted workshops and lectures. Below are key details of the programme:

  • The 1st FFDP was held on 19th October, 2024 at SJMCH, Puri, with a focus on enhancing faculty teaching methodologies and skills.
  • The 2nd FFDP was held on 4th January, 2025 at SCB MCH, Cuttack specifically faculties of Medical/ Dental stream with a focus on Medical Education Technology.
  • The 3rd FFDP for was held on 10th May, 2025 at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar on Teaching Methodologies in Nursing Education specifically focusing on educating the Nursing Faculties on the said topic.
  • A total of 100 participants, including faculty members from both government and private affiliated colleges, took part in the programme.
  • The FFDP provides faculty with the latest advancements in medical education, improving their ability to adapt teaching methods to the evolving needs of students.
  • The programme offers faculty members practical tools for incorporating technology into the classroom and improving educational outcomes.
  • It aims to foster a collaborative approach among faculty across institutions, ensuring that best practices are shared and implemented.
  1. Call for Expression of Interest (EOI) for Recognition as “University Research Centre(s)”

   OUHS has sent Call of Expression of Interest (EOI) to recognize postgraduate departments of affiliated colleges as “University Research Centres” for their respective specialities. This initiative aims to strengthen the research ecosystem and enhance collaborative opportunities for faculty and students across the University.

Key Highlights of Recognition

  1. Special Status: Departments recognized as University Research Centres will serve as hubs for postgraduate and faculty research.
  2. Research Collaboration: The University will facilitate research activities and act as a catalyst, facilitator, and/or partner in the implementation of research projects.
  3. Support for Funded Projects: Research projects obtained by OUHS will be forwarded to these centres for execution, leveraging their infrastructure and expertise.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for recognition, departments must meet the following conditions:

  • Conducting postgraduate courses in the speciality.
  • Possessing adequate infrastructure and skilled resource personnel.
  • Demonstrating consistent research contributions over the past three years, such as publications, funded projects, or other academic achievements.

Submission Requirements

Interested departments are requested to submit their Expression of Interest (EOI) along with the following documents:

  1. A detailed overview of the department’s infrastructure, research facilities, and available resources.
  2. A summary of research contributions over the last three years.
  3. Any additional supporting documentation to substantiate eligibility.

Evaluation Process

The Screening Committee of OUHS will meticulously review all submitted EOIs. The committee will evaluate applications based on merit and adherence to the criteria set forth. The committee’s decision regarding recognition as a University Research Centre will be final and binding.

Application reach beyond the Submission Deadline will be rejected.
